AAP MLA Prakash Jarwal taken into custody by Delhi Police

AAP MLA Prakash Jarwal taken into custody by Delhi Police

The Congress on Tuesday termed the alleged manhandling of Delhi Chief Secretary Anshu Prakash by AAP MLAs as "unfortunate", saying such an incident should not have taken place.

The AAP, in an official statement on Tuesday, clarified its stance and said that a meeting was held at the Chief Minister's residence to discuss Aadhaar related problems. The MLAs are under tremendous pressure from public, it said. There was a meeting of MLAs at CM's residence.

Maken also said that it would be a very risky situation if Delhi goes towards administrative paralysis and demanded that the Delhi Lieutenant Governor should meet the chief minister and restore confidence. "Now he is making such ludicrous allegations". An AAP leader characterised the incident as the deliberate attempts of some "bureaucrats who are acting at the behest of BJP to destabilise the government the people elected". "BJP has stooped very low in disrupting governance in Delhi through LG and officers". During the argument, two or three AAP MLAs manhandled him.

The incident could snowball into a major confrontation between the Centre and the AAP government, as Rajnath Singh stepped into the matter and sought a report on it from the Lt Governor. There has also been a first information report (FIR) filed against the two legislators. Supreme Court and advertisement to be released must be in consonance with the said guidelines. "The civil servants should be allowed to work with dignity and without fear", tweeted the home minister. Members of the subordinate services in Delhi went on a strike which they said would continue until the guilty are arrested.

"Delhi secretariat is a high-security zone so there is ample police deployment". At no stage did I retaliate or provoke any person in the room despite confinement, criminal intimidation by extending threat to my life, and assault by several MLAs while I was discharging my official duties. They have announced to boycott Delhi Government's meetings till Kejriwal tenders apology. "The environment that is trying to be created in the Secretariat..." Thereafter I left my residence in my official vehicle and driver along with my PSO and reached CM's residence at midnight. Chief minister Arvind Kejriwal was present at the meeting, but maintained silence on the controversy.

The Aam Aadmi Party has been slammed by the opposition parties. Deputy CM Manish Sisodia, however, reiterated that the chief secretary's allegations were "baseless". AAP and anarchy have become synonymous. "It has no relations with Constitution", BJP spokesperson Sambit Patra said while addressing a press conference.
