India won ODI series in South Africa; Twitterati celebrate the winning

South Africa won the toss and made a decision to bowl in the fifth one-day worldwide against India at St George's Park on Tuesday.

India had entered the six-match series in second position on 119 points, two points behind leaders South Africa.

Rohit Sharma inspired India to a victory over South Africa and a series win that ensures they will leapfrog the Proteas and go top of the one-day rankings. The visitors' batsmen have taken responsibility throughout with captain Virat Kohli striking two centuries and opener Shikhar Dhawan also reaching three figures. Current skipper Virat Kohli was the highest scorer, remaining unbeaten on 87 off 92 balls.

Rohit Sharma finally shrugged off his poor run in South Africa with a match-winning century in Port Elizabeth on Tuesday. After making an impressive worldwide debut in the Test series last month, the tall right-arm fast-bowler continued his good form with returns of four for 51 from his nine overs. India only added 55 runs in the final 10 overs.

South Africa chased down a revised target of 202, ultimately easily, after David Miller was bowled off a no-ball, given a life, and used it crack a match-turning 39 from 28 balls. But Hardik Pandya, who bowled brilliantly, ran out Amla with a splendid throw from mid-off to disturb the stumps at non-striker's end. The only other form of resistance came from Heinrich Klaasen and Kagiso Rabada with a 28 run, seventh wicket partnership. Notably, the Women in Blue defeated their South African counterparts by 16 runs in their only previous T20I meeting in November 2014 at Bengaluru.

After Amla, South Africa went from 166-5 to 201 all out in the space of eight overs and those last five wickets all fell to the spin of Yadav or Chahal.

Talking about the game, Proteas coach Otis Gibson praised his bowlers but mentioned his disappointment with the team's batting.

Gibson cited the lack of consistent batting as the downfall this series.

"In nearly every game their top three scored a hundred". That's been the difference the whole series. But I knew that if we could get 270-280, it will be hard for them because we knew the wicket is very slow and anything could happen as our wrist spinners are bowling very well and they have troubled their batsmen a lot.

He says these performances are the small differences in the series that guide a team to victory. India has won nine straight series, and last lost one in Australia in early 2016.

At Port Elizabeth, the rain is predicted during the morning, while the weather is expected to clear an hour before play is scheduled to start.
