Man In Sexual Assault Video Being Shared on Facebook Turns Himself In

Moore was charged with sexual assault of a child, distribution of video depicting the assault and first-degree criminal sexual conduct.

"The children were in the care and custody of the defendant, their paternal uncle, while their mother worked", Wayne County Assistant Prosecutor Maria Miller said.

Germaine Moore surrendered Tuesday to police in Millbrook, Alabama, on sexual assault of a child and other charges in connection with the video which has been circulated on Facebook and other social media.

Deputies say this video is typically shared through messenger in an effort to be helpful in catching the man seen in the video.

"It's picked up viral status on social media and people are blindly sharing it in the interest of trying to identify the suspect and the child", Edwards said. Law enforcement agencies across the country issued warnings to anyone who received the video to report it through social media and delete it immediately. Police ask you to notify the social media site where you got it, but do not post it or share it.

The little girl in the video was located and is safe.

Investigators said it's impossible to tell where the man and girl were when the video was taken.

As investigators try to determine the video's origin, they're also concerned the post could spread viruses to viewers' computers. "It is a felony and we will prosecute", Starke said.

Moore's fiance is also facing charges of interfering with the prosecution, WSFA reports.

Police began asking for the public's assistance after attempting to serve a warrant at Moore's home on Monday afternoon.

Authorities believe there are more victims, meaning additional charges for Moore. He was taken to the Montgomery County Detention Facility, where he was being held under a $100,000 bond, a report said.

At a news conference Tuesday, officials gave an update on the status of the investigation.

The MPD says they are aware of the video and its contents and there is no need to send it to them. He added that Moore had occasionally visited the family in Detroit and that the girls had visited him in Alabama.

Voice of Hope Prevention Director Leslie Timmons said the best way to help is not perpetuate the video or image.

"We're definitely glad he's in custody, " Walker told AL.com. We don't need you to make a copy.
