Taliban bomber kills 11 soldiers in Pakistan's Swat Valley

Taliban bomber kills 11 soldiers in Pakistan's Swat Valley

Media cell of Pakistan military, Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) reported that the Army Chief, Khyber Pakhuntkhwa (KP) Governor and Peshawar Corps Commander among other military and civil personalities.

"The soldiers were playing volleyball in the evening outside the military base.when a suicide bomber managed to blow himself up", said a security official who asked not to be identified. The death toll may further increase as several injured were in a critical condition, health officials said. The injured soldiers have been shifted to Kabal hospital.

Security forces and police have cordoned off the area and a search operation was started to arrest the terrorists.

The Pakistani army had launched a large scale operation against the militants in the Swat valley in 2009 and destroyed their hideouts within two months. The Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan claimed responsibility for the attack in an email sent to journalists, warning that the group would carry out more such attacks.

The report said that the outfit noted that it was the second attack this month with more to follow. Pakistan says militants who escaped from Swat and elsewhere are now operating out of the Kunar province in neighboring Afghanistan. The valley was briefly controlled by the Taliban between 2007 and 2009. "No cowardly attack can deter us in pursuing our struggle against the menace of terrorism to its logical conclusion", he said.
