Ryan tweets about a $1.50 paycheck boost, then deletes it

Ryan tweets about a $1.50 paycheck boost, then deletes it

House Speaker Paul Ryan (R-WI) on Saturday celebrated a public school secretary who said her paycheck had grown $1.50 per week larger as a result of Republicans' tax bill.

President Donald Trump recently approved a drastic overhaul of the U.S. tax system, which Democrats say will mainly benefit the country's wealthiest people.

Ryan tweeted about the GOP tax overhaul and within no time, faced a huge backlash on Twitter.

Ketchum will see her pay increase by $78 a year, which she said she will put toward her membership at warehouse club Costco, according to the Associated Press.

Whoever sent that tweet from Ryan's account, whether it was him or a hapless staffer, has to be feeling a little sheepish right now.

Users on Twitter - mostly left-leaning individuals - didn't take too kindly to Ryan's tweet, which has since been deleted.

House Speaker Paul Ryan was criticized Saturday for insinuating that a Pennsylvania woman who is now receiving $1.50 additional pay per week is proof that the GOP tax law is succeeding.

Ryan also posted a quote from a man the AP said "got an extra $200 in his paycheck last week, which he said will help offset a $300 increase in the cost of his health insurance".

Ryan's opponent in the 2018 congressional elections, Randy Bryce, also responded to the tweet, taking the opportunity to try to juice his own fundraising efforts. "People interviewed before and after me had hundreds, and when (Ryan) chose to tweet about me, that cracked me up". U.S. Rep. Keith Ellison of Minnesota linked to Ryan's tweet and wrote "Wells Fargo, fresh off of defrauding millions of Americans, gets $3.4 billion".

"Paul Ryan deleted his embarrassing tweet of a blatant admission because he and Republicans don't want you to know the truth: the #GOPTaxScam is a gift to corporate America and the top 1% at your expense", Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi tweeted.
