Carson Wentz ditches cane, showing progress in ACL rehab

Carson Wentz ditches cane, showing progress in ACL rehab

Simply put, the ACL usually takes about a year to fully recover, and because Wentz tore his so late in the season, it could seriously affect his chances of being ready in September, only 10 months after his original injury. Wentz missed a large chunk of his final college season with a broken wrist, cracked his ribs in the 2016 preseason and is in the midst of rehabbing a serious knee injury.

"I 100% believe I'll be back better than ever, stronger than ever, and with no looking back", said Wentz, acknowledging that players tend to "protect" themselves a little more when returning from injury. "We were talking today, I know he wants to be out there with us playing".

"I've said since I've got here, 'We've got something special here.' Without a doubt. You know I truly believe my goal is to be ready for week one". "It's just such a fluid process, and we'll just see what happens".

But for Wentz to play a large role in any sustained success, he'll need to stay on the field.

On top of all this, the NFL.com also reported in mid-December that Wentz also had a partially torn IT [iliotibial] band and that he had to have some meniscus damage cleaned up during his Dec. 13 surgery. Wentz made it clear on Friday that he's going to continue to play quarterback the way he's played it his entire life.

"I am who I am. But as far as being aggressive and the player I am, that won't change".

At the same time, Wentz's injury history might concern a franchise that must begin pondering whether the North Dakota State product is worth one of the most expensive contracts in National Football League history.
