Trump says he is willing to be interviewed under oath by Mueller

Trump says he is willing to be interviewed under oath by Mueller

Cobb has repeatedly said that the president is willing to testify to Mueller's investigation, and wants Mueller to wind up the case as early as possible. "The fact is -- you people won't say this but I'll say it -- I was a much better candidate than her", Trump said, referring to Hillary Clinton, his Democratic opponent.

In March, Sessions recused himself from anything to do with investigations involving the 2016 election, a move that meant he had no power to influence Mueller's probe.

The president's lawyers have been talking to the investigation team led by justice department special counsel Robert Mueller about an interview, and the form it might take.

Special counsel Robert Mueller wants to question US President Donald Trump on his decisions to fire his national security adviser and the Federal Bureau of Investigation chief, a media report said on Wednesday, days after he interviewed the Attorney General in a probe into whether Russian Federation colluded with the Trump campaign in the 2016 election. However, last March he recused himself from all Russia-related investigations after it came out that Sessions had met with Russia's ambassador to the US twice during the 2016 campaign.

Sessions was the first member of Trump's Cabinet known to have been questioned by Mueller's office.

Comey told a congressional panel last June that during a White House encounter, Trump expressed his hope that the bureau would end its investigation of Flynn's contacts with Russian officials, raising questions as to whether Trump obstructed justice.

A recent Washington Post report suggested Mueller wanted to question Trump specifically about the events surrounding his firings of two administration officials: National Security Adviser Michael Flynn, and FBI Director James Comey.

"There has been no collusion whatsoever, there has been no obstruction whatsoever", he said. That recusal put Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein in charge, who later appointed Mueller as special counsel. "I think we all know what everybody in this room would do if the President did that, and I don't think that is helpful to the process".

Speaking to reporters on Wednesday, Trump went on to reject criticism of his counter-attacks to the Russian Federation probe.

If leading up to the encounter Trump seems to be trying to discredit Mueller, it will be a pretty good sign that he and his advisers aren't as confident as he sounded today. That chain of events has strained the relationship between Sessions and Trump, with the president blaming his attorney general for Mueller's appointment in private and lashing out on him via Twitter.
