LeBron James congratulates himself ahead of joining NBA's 30000-point club

LeBron James congratulates himself ahead of joining NBA's 30000-point club

LeBron James reached a major National Basketball Association milestone Tuesday, scoring his 30,000th point and joining an exclusive club.

After missing his first two midrange jumpers and a pair of free throws, James made two driving layups and a 20-footer, and then rose above Danny Green for a 19-foot jumper with one second remaining in the first quarter to reach the mark.

With 30,021 points, James joined Kareem Abdul-Jabbar (38,387 points), Karl Malone (36,928), Kobe Bryant (33,643), Michael Jordan (32,292), Wilt Chamberlain (31,419) and Dirk Nowitzki (30,808) on the list.

James attempted to do it at home on Saturday, but finished with just 18 points on eight of 17 shooting in a 148-124 blowout loss to the Oklahoma City Thunder.

LeBron James #23 of the Cleveland Cavaliers argues after being ejected in the second half by referee Kane Fitzgerald #5 while playing the Miami Heat at Quicken Loans Arena on November 28, 2017 in Cleveland, Ohio. James' high mark with Cleveland is 57 points against Washington earlier this season.

"I'm not a player who sets out to say, 'Okay, I need to dominate scoring, ' " the Cavs star told reporters last week (via USA Today).

At least for part of a game, James and his teammates can put that squabbling behind them and celebrate his undeniable greatness.

Michael Beasley scored 21 points and Courtney Lee contributed 20 as NY lost for the third time in four games and sixth in eight. "So with that said, Congrats again Young King", he wrote. After all, he has also been the youngest to 5,000, 10,000, 15,000, 20,000 and 25,000 points. In the post LeBron congratulated himself in the third person, sort of, on his impending accomplishment.

Evan Fournier led the Magic with 22 points and Elfrid Payton had 21 points, seven assists and seven rebounds.

But LeBron James took it to the next level Tuesday when he shared a young photo of himself along with a novel-length caption about how proud he was of himself for the record he has yet to actually accomplish.

But before that, there are more milestones to collect. The Nets ended a two-game winning streak, matching their longest of the season.
