Micromax Bharat Go will be India's first Android Go smartphone

Micromax Bharat Go will be India's first Android Go smartphone

Micromax announced that it will be launching the first smartphone to be available with Google's Android Oreo (Go Edition), aptly called BHARAT GO.

Last month around Google had announced Android Go, a lighter version of Android based on the latest Oreo.

Basically, Android Oreo (Go Edition) is the optimized version of Android Oreo so it can run smoothly on entry-level of smartphones. Additionally, Go Edition devices also comes with a toned-down version of Google Play Store that recommends the apps most compatible with budget smartphone. As far as the specifications are concerned, it will be an entry-level smartphone. However, we can expect it to be an entry-level smartphone as it runs the Android Oreo (Go edition). The search giant, at the time of the launch of Android Oreo (Go Edition) mentioned it will bring a toned-down version of the Google Play Store "that allows you to download any app, but also highlights the apps created to work best on your device". While the apps are created to offer the basic functions similar to their standard counterparts, Google said the apps would still consume less memory and storage while being frugal on mobile data as well.

The skinned-down OS is optmised for low-end devices with 512MB to 1GB RAM; plus, a Go version will feature several enhancements.

Also, while Google has said the Android Go initiative is aimed at introducing the weaker sections of the society to Android smartphones, that sure applies to developing markets like India. Not only Micromax, Google has joined hands with some other Indian smartphone manufacturers such as Intex, Karbonn, Lava as well. The company says that the phones running Android Oreo (Go edition) will hit the shelves in early 2018. So, the performance of budget phones with Android Oreo Go is expected to be good.
