Honda Accord, Lincoln Navigator and Volvo XC60 Take top Honors at NAIAS

Honda Accord, Lincoln Navigator and Volvo XC60 Take top Honors at NAIAS

The 2018 Lincoln Navigator won Truck of the Year.

The Honda Accord has won the latest battle against its archrival, the Toyota Camry.

Despite a disappointing year for the model, which saw sales drop 6.2 percent between 2016 and 2017, the Accord beat out the Kia Stinger and Toyota Motor Company (ADR) (NYSE: TM) Camry for the vehicle accolade.

With contenders hailing from around the world, swarming to the US for the largest auto show on the continent, this year's winners came from lands near and far away. Arcangeli calls the Accord "new from the ground up", with more coupe-like styling and its first-ever turbocharged engines. Competitors in this class included members of the Lincoln's own extended family in the form of the Ford Expedition and Chevrolet's excellent off-roader, the Colorado ZR2.

Kumar Galhotra, head of the Lincoln brand, said the award should give the Navigator a boost as it tries to gain traction in the competitive full-size truck-based luxury SUV market.

The brand sold only 10,523 Navigators past year, far behind competitors in the segment such as the Cadillac Escalade.

The Utility Vehicle of the Year award was introduced in January 2017, with the Windsor-made Chrysler Pacifica being the first honouree in the new category's history.

Only vehicles that are all new or substantially changed for the 2018 model year were eligible to win.
