Armed robbers seize jewellery worth millions from Ritz, Paris

In a real-life version of Ocean's Eleven, axe-wielding robbers heisted more than $5 million worth of jewelry from a store the Ritz Paris hotel on Wednesday.

Three suspects have been detained and two others are on the run, the source said.

French media said the three were seasoned criminals, well known to police.

The city's police commissioner issued a statement on Twitter thanking officers for their quick reactions, which led to the arrest of three men.

Police are still searching for the two missing suspects.

One eyewitness told Sky News: "My parents and I were sitting at the Hemingway Bar at the Ritz for a drink and we were about to leave when we heard shouting from the bartenders to get down".

'There were initial fears that a terrorist attack was going on, but it soon became clear that it was a robbery.

The motorcyclist dropped a bag containing jewels and hatchets when his motorcycle hit a pedestrian during his escape.
