Winter weather advisory for region tonight, tomorrow

Blizzard conditions are possible in parts of the Dakotas, Nebraska, western Iowa and Minnesota. Less than a half-inch of snow is forecast.

Over the next day or two, meteorologists will be able to better predict where the heaviest rain might fall. It will be windy and very cold as arctic air settles in.

A winter weather event is possible across Middle Tennessee Friday night into Saturday, although there is still a significant amount of uncertainty, according to the National Weather Service.

Below, we take a closer look at what to expect over the next several days as Winter Storm Hunter tracks across the country. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS. A Winter Storm Watch for blizzard conditions means there is a potential for falling and/or blowing snow with strong winds and extremely poor visibilities.

There may be hazardous driving conditions as the freezing rain hits, especially on untreated services, the weather service says.

Winter storm watch in effect from Wednesday night through Thursday afternoon.




Winds will also play a major factor in the storm system.

Wind-driven snow is expected to be in the upper Midwest and northern Great Lakes. This could lead to blowing and drifting of snow.

This may include cities such as Minneapolis-St.

Rain changing to snow, sleet or freezing rain may expand farther east from Arkansas into the mid-Mississippi Valley and southern Great Lakes. Totals over a foot are likely in the higher terrain. Winds will shift out of the northwest by midnight and could gust as high as 38 miles per hour.

FRIDAY: Cloudy with rain and rain. There is the chance for some freezing rain with this. This will change to an icy mix Friday night.
