Husted Reacts To End Of Trump's Election Commission

Several states had refused to cooperate with the commission, a White House statement said. Instead of addressing real problems like Russian hacking and solutions that improve security and accessibility, the commission was always a partisan vehicle to justify President Trump's baseless lies about why he lost the popular vote.

The panel struggled from the start, however, with Democratic state officials refusing to comply with requests for public voter roll data that in many cases can be easily bought. But, Trump had bagged the electoral college vote by winning the Midwestern states. "Rather than engage in endless legal battles at taxpayer expense, today President Donald J. Trump signed an executive order to dissolve the commission, and he has asked the Department of Homeland Security to review its initial findings and determine next courses of action".

Back in May, Donald Trump's exquisitely delicate ego motivated him to establish the Presidential Advisory Commission on Election Integrity, which was tasked with examining the impacts of "improper voting, fraudulent voter registrations, and fraudulent voting". "They fought hard that the Commission not see their records or methods because they know that many people are voting illegally".

Kristen Clarke, president of the Lawyers' Committee for Civil Rights Under Law, a nonprofit advocacy group, also welcomed the news, calling the commission "a vehicle launched for the sole goal of laying the groundwork to promote voter suppression policies on a national scale". Shortly after the White House announced that Trump had dissolved the commission on Wednesday, the Justice Department filed notices in each of the cases alerting judges to the development. System is rigged, must go to Voter I.D.

He followed that up with another tweet asking Americans to "push hard for voter identification".

Homeland Security has already been investigating allegations of Russian tampering with voter registration systems in at least 20 states.

The Lawyer's Committee brought one of the lawsuits against the commission past year.

"DHS can do it more freely and efficiently than a commission can", he said.

No widespread voter fraud has been shown.

Kansas state Rep. Keith Esau, an Olathe Republican who is running to succeed Kobach as secretary of state, defended the commission's request for information and blamed the media for the furor over the commission's work.

"The commission's entire objective was to legitimize voter suppression", Vanita Gupta, president of the Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights, and former head of the Justice Departments Civil Rights Division, told the Times.

Hans Von Spakovsky, a member of the commission and a senior legal fellow at the conservative Heritage Foundation, said in an email to BuzzFeed News that he was disappointed with the commission's dissolution, but understood Trump's reason for doing it, citing the refusal of states to provide data and the pending lawsuits.
