Jimmy Iovine is allegedly leaving Apple in August

Jimmy Iovine is allegedly leaving Apple in August

Chief among that talent was Jimmy Iovine, who has been in charge of Apple Music ever since the music-streaming service launched in 2015.

Iovine has been instrumental in growing Apple Music to where it is, but it looks like the company is going to have to carry on without him in a matter of months.

Unnamed sources told Billboard, as well as industry blog Hits Daily Double, that Iovine's departure might be timed around the vesting of his stake in Apple in August.

Under his leadership, which included a strong push into original programming, Apple Music has surged to 30 million paid subscribers. In 2012, they bought struggling music streaming service MOG and expanded that into subscription-based Beats Music before selling the entire company to Cupertino, California, -based Apple.

The Bloomberg report says that Iovine's tendency to "trust his gut" has led to conflict within Apple. Iovine and Dr. Dre joined Apple as employees as part of the deal. "Our new ad focuses on women, which is why I answered the way I did, but of course the same applies equally for men". Curiously enough, Iovine was never given a specific title during his time with Apple although it is largely assumed that he is in charge of Apple Music. I'm 64 years old.

When asked what will happen when that contract is up in August, Iovine has previously replied with a version of "I have no idea what I'll be doing then". There's just a problem here that needs some sort of solution, and I want to contribute to it. Goldman Sachs may think it's solved, but I don't.
