LG 88-inch 8K OLED TV is ready for CES 2018

LG 88-inch 8K OLED TV is ready for CES 2018

You can still expect to see a few 8K screens on display at CES 2018 next week, however, and this new 88-inch panel from LG Display will be the cream of the crop. Consumer electronics manufacturer LG Display has always been working towards pushing its OLED technology to 8K, with the main objective of going a step further. The approval of establishing this plant has also been given by the South Korean government. Interestingly, the new system has an 8K display making it the first of its kind and with this, the company is promising better things for the consumers.

The television, which measures a huge 88 inches across in its display, packs a total of 7780 x 4320 pixels into all that screen real estate. Till date, the highest resolution available on TVs has been 4K or Ultra HD which most of the flagship models come with.

"The successful development of the world's first 8K OLED display is a milestone for the 8K era and underscores the exciting potential of OLED", LG Display CTO In-Byung Kang said in a statement. From what we have heard so far, the display boasts 33 million pixels, four times that of 3,840x2,160 ultra high definition and 16 times more pixels than 1,920x1,080 full high definition. Brands like LG, Sony and Panasonic already offer 77-inch TVs.

Samsung used to be a contender in this arena, as well, but the South Korean giant has since shifted its focus on QLED display. But again a TV with an 8K resolution is simply on another level. "OLED is clearly a next-generation technology leader and for this reason, LG Display is accelerating its research and development into OLED so that we can provide differentiated products to customers and markets". LG's 77-inch TV costs a whopping $20,000. The recognition belongs to Dell after the Round Rock, Texas-based company announced its 32-inch 7680x4320 UltraSharp UP3218K monitor at CES 2017 and started selling the device months after.
