Gift-wrapped horse manure prompts bomb scare at USA treasury secretary's LA home

Apparently Mnuchin, who has not yet responded to BuzzFeed News' request for comment, was at home when the package arrived, and it was so suspicious that the bomb squad was called in to investigate.

The package was reported to police after it was discovered in the 900 block of Bel-Air Road, LAPD officials said.

U.S. Secretary of Treasury Steve Mnuchin testifies during a House Ways and Means Committee hearing concerning the Trump administration's fiscal year 2018 budget proposals, on Capitol Hill, May 24, 2017 in Washington, DC.

Investigators cleared the package of any risky content by 8 p.m.

A Christmas card was also inside the package, making some reference to Mnuchin and President Donald Trump, multiple sources told NBC.

Police said the package was delivered in Christmas wrapping, and the sender was listed as "the American people". KPCC noted that the Secret Service is now handling the investigation.
