Trump Calls on Washington Post to Fire Writer Dave Weigel

Trump Calls on Washington Post to Fire Writer Dave Weigel

The two men touched on the recent brouhaha revolving around the Washington Post's Dave Weigel tweeting out a misleading photo from President Trump's Friday rally, leading Trump to lash out at Weigel on Twitter and demand the reporter be fired. 'I deleted the photo after @dmartosko told me I'd gotten it wrong.

"Trump wasn't satisfied, tweeting, ".@daveweigel of the Washington Post just admitted that his picture was a FAKE (fraud?) showing an nearly empty arena last night for my speech in Pensacola when, in fact, he knew the arena was packed (as shown also on T.V.). He deleted the tweet after learning that the venue had not yet filled up.

On Saturday night, The Washington Post released a statement. On Saturday morning, he attacked CNN for making a what called a "vicious and purposeful mistake" when it was forced to correct a story about the Trump campaign and WikiLeaks.

As for Trump, he tweeted earlier Saturday about his pleasure over the reception he received in Pensacola.

But while Trump, or anyone, is justified in complaining about unmerited criticism from a member of the media, Trump significantly exaggerated Weigel's transgression. They were caught red handed, just like lonely Brian Ross at ABC News (who should be immediately fired for his "mistake").

He continued, "Real photos now shown as I spoke. Watch to see if fires those responsible, or was it just gross incompetence?" he asked.

After the rally, the President tweeted a "Thank You Pensacola" message, claiming that the arena was "packed to the rafters". He deleted it about 20 minutes later. "Was confused by the image of you walking in the bottom right corner", he tweeted. Later, Weigel wrote, "It was a bad tweet on my personal account, not a story for Washington Post. Very fair to call me out".

This latest incident appeared replay his inauguration crowd-size debacle, when Trump famously disputed the underwhelming crowd-size at the event.

"And then the president demanded an apology", Vittert said.

Trump's ABC jab referred to the network's investigative reporter who was suspended for four weeks without pay after he erroneously reported that Michael Flynn, the former national security adviser, had been directed to make contact with the Russians.
