Search continues for 3-year-old girl missing from North Carolina

Search continues for 3-year-old girl missing from North Carolina

As they search the woodland behind her home, investigators are searching an abandoned house and a nearby body of water and the FBI's child abduction team is working with local authorities.

Investigators have determined that the woman and child in this surveillance photo taken at a North Carolina Walmart are not connected to an Amber Alert issued for 3-year-old Mariah Woods. She's about 30 pounds with blue eyes and brown hair. She was last seen when her mother put her to bed around 11 p.m. Sunday, according to the Charlotte Division of the Federal Bureau of Investigation. She said her boyfriend saw the toddler around midnight when she got up and he told her to go back to bed.

By the next morning, the girl had disappeared and the couple contacted the Onslow County Sheriff's Office to report her missing, authorities said.

The home is just west of Jacksonville and Marine Corps Air Station New River.

Around 9:45 a.m. Wednesday, the Onslow County Sheriff's Office confirmed the girl was not Mariah.

- As officials and investigators in Onslow County moved into Day 4 of the search for Mariah Kay Woods, 3, focus was shifted to a creek off U.S. Highway 17, just a few miles from where the child was last seen.

Mariah Woods was reported missing from her Jacksonville, N.C., home about 6 a.m. Monday. "We are not releasing it to the public at this point", Onslow County Sheriff Hans Miller said to WRAL.

On Thursday, search crews turned their attention towards a creek along USA 17 about three miles from Mariah's home on Dawson Cabin Road in Jacksonville where she was last seen.

Authorities have not said much about the investigation, but said they do not believe there is an ongoing threat to the general public.

An FBI officials also stressed that their goal is to talk to everyone who lives in Mariah Woods' neighborhood, as well as anyone who had contact with the family over the weekend Mariah went missing. "You know, I mean, if she's out there in the woods or something like that.it's not looking good for my baby".

The FBI said that law enforcement officers and dive teams searched a wooded area surrounding Mariah Woods's home.

The FBI said they found some items of interest that they are testing for "evidentiary value". "I got to think the best".

"I'm emotional about this", Sheriff Miller said.

The girl's biological father, Alex Woods, who does not live with the child or her mother, told WCTI-TV in New Bern Tuesday he did not believe his daughter was abducted.
