Time magazine disputes Trump's "Person of the Year" tweet

Time magazine disputes Trump's

This time, however, Trump decided that he was contacted about being TIME's Person of the Year for a second year in a row, and he said he "would have to agree to an interview and a major photo shoot", without official confirmation.

The US President took to twitter to say that the magazine had told him the would "probably" be selected as Person of the Year. He says he told the magazine that "probably" isn't good enough, and he would pass on the opportunity.

'The President is incorrect about how we choose Person of the Year. "TIME does not comment on our choice until publication, which is December 6", TIME tweeted.

Time did not immediately respond to a request for comment. Quoting Trump's tweet Stengel, Stengel asserted,"They just wanted a photo shoot".

British tennis player Andy Murray was among those who made a joke of Mr Trump's tweet, sarcastically writing: "BBC just called to say I was PROBABLY going to be named sports personality of the year but I would have to agree to an interview and a major photo shoot".

Venerated author Joyce Carol Oates said her cat was slated to become TIME Magazine's "Feline of the Year" but declined to be interviewed because "she is a cat".

The magazine's editors are the ones who select the Person of the Year, but the publication offers a poll where readers can vote for their pick.

Trump claimed on Twitter on Friday that he had taken himself out of consideration after he refused to meet the magazine's "requirements" for an interview and photo shoot without being guaranteed the title.

Shortly after his election last year, Mr Trump complained to a crowd of supporters that the magazine should return to calling it's award "Man of the Year".

Mr. Trump frequently brags about his cover appearances in the iconic magazine.

Donald Trump's least presidential moments so far. "You should run Time!".
