Guarantee safe return of Jadhav's wife: India to Pak

Guarantee safe return of Jadhav's wife: India to Pak

India has sought "sovereign guarantee" from Pakistan to ensure safety and security of the wife and the mother of Indian death row prisoner Kulbhushan Jadhav, if they are allowed to visit him.

Kumar said that while India has responded "positively" to the neighbouring country's offer to arrange a meeting between Jadhav and his wife, there was a "long-standing request from Jadhav's mother to visit Pakistan and meet her son". Also sought sovereign guarantee from Govt of Pak to ensure safety, security of both. Pakistan is yet to respond to New Delhi's request that Jadhav's mother too be allowed to meet him.

Protesting the charges levelled by India, US, the United Nations and most of the rest of the world, self-confessed RAW agent Kulbhushan Jadhav maintained that the Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) and Jamaat-ud-Dawa (JuD) Chief Hafiz Saeed is not a terrorist. "Also, during their stay in Pakistan, they should not be questioned or harassed", ANI quoted ministry of external affairs spokesperson Raveesh Kumar as saying. The move came months after New Delhi requested Islamabad to allow Jadhav's mother to meet him on humanitarian grounds. India has acknowledged Jadhav as a retired Indian Navy officer but denied that he was in any way connected to the government.

Kulbushan Jadhav meeting: India seeks Pakistan's sovereign guarantee for former navy officer's wife and mother

Pakistan's Foreign Office said on Friday that Jadhav would be allowed to meet his wife on Pakistani soil.

India continues to remain determined to "pursue all measures with full vigour so as to secure the final release of an innocent Indian".

Jadhav, 46, was arrested by Pakistan from the restive Balochistan province in 2016 and was sentenced to death by a Pakistani military court on charges of espionage and terrorism. But, ICJ stayed his execution on India's appeal since then he is in the imprisonment of Pakistan. New Delhi's repeated requests to grant consular access to him were turned down by Islamabad. But Pakistan's offer also took India by surprise. They would be accompanied by an Indian diplomat from the High Commission in Islamabad.
