PUBG could get a 'socialist makeover' in China

PUBG could get a 'socialist makeover' in China

Specifically, PUBG will have to incorporate tweaks that would make it more suitable for the "socialist core values" of China.

PUBG Corp is planning to perform a stable game service such as the expansion of the server and enhancement of anti-hacking programs, through the contract with Tencent, the company which has been successfully developing and servicing a diversity of major online games.

Chinese content authorities were said to have considered blocking "PUBG's" release because the game "severely deviates from socialist core values".

Outside of the lack of updates in preparation for the game's full launch, the biggest problem facing PUBG users around the world is the increase in cheaters.

Tencent's agreement to become the Chinese publisher of PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds in the region could result in some drastic changes to the game for Chinese players. Just this year Tencent, known for publishing popular mobile games like Honour of Kings, saw its market value rise to $520 billion Dollars, making it the first Chinese company to crack $500 billion. However, before this could happen, it seems a few changes to the game will have to be made.

PUBG Corp. provided more insight about the partnership in a press release.

Among other things, the developer studios for their survival games have added red banners that read, "safeguard national security, safeguard world peace". The companies also plan for "a fair and sustainable ecosystem by seeking co-existence with key stakeholders including live streaming platforms, media and PC cafes".
