US Navy aircraft carrying 11 crashes off Japan

The Nimitz-class aircraft carriers USS John C. Stennis and USS Ronald Reagan (CVN 76) are conducting dual aircraft carrier strike group operations in the USA 7th Fleet area of operations in support of security and stability in the Indo-Asia-Pacific.

As per the recent reports, US Navy aircraft which was carrying at least 11 crew members and passengers have been reportedly crashed into the sea off the coast of Japan on Wednesday.

The search for the remaining three is continuing. Eight of the 11 have been rescued and are in good condition, the Navy said.

It was operating in the Philippine Sea when the crash happened at 2.45pm local time (approximately 5.45am GMT).

United States and Japanese naval ships and aircraft are searching for the missing.

It was flying to aircraft carrier USS Ronald Reagan in the Philippine Sea, when it crashed around 2:45 p.m. Japan time.

The cause of the crash was still unknown.

Trump said in a tweet: "We are monitoring the situation".

"Search and rescue efforts for three personnel continue with U.S. Navy and Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force (JMSDF) ships and aircraft on scene", the U.S. Seventh Fleet said in a news release.

Wednesday's crash is the latest in a string of accidents to befall the 7th Fleet this year, including two collisions involving guided-missile destroyers that left 17 sailors dead.

The USS John S. McCain collided with a tanker off Singapore in August, killing 10 sailors and injuring five others. Seven sailors died in June when the USS Fitzgerald and a container ship collided off Japan.
