Woman refuses to remove crude anti-Trump message from pickup

Woman refuses to remove crude anti-Trump message from pickup

The owner of the truck, who KPRC 2 identified as Karen Forsenca, said the sticker would stay up as it has for almost a year, according to the local news station.

"They're fighting words because now you're challenging an individual, you're focused on that one person because it says, 'f you for voting for him, '" said Sheriff Troy Nehls of the Fort Bend County Sheriff's Department.

In the post that has now been deleted, Nehls posted a photo of the sticker with the obscene words blacked out and a message that he wanted to "discuss" the sticker.

Another commenter, Linzi Bee, wrote, "I've seen this truck, and I would (be) pleased if the owner of this vehicle was prosecuted for disorderly conduct". Some said the owner of the truck was well within his or her First Amendment rights, while others said the language used was profane and offensive.

Karen Fonseca says she's been repeatedly stopped by law officers, but that they have no grounds to issue a citation.

She said she has been pulled over several times, but was always let go as sheriffs scratched their heads trying to figure out what they could charge her with.

"Our Prosecutor has informed us she would accept Disorderly Conduct charges regarding it, but I feel we could come to an agreement regarding a modification to it", Nehls wrote.

On Twitter, users debated the fate of the sticker.

"It's just our freedom of speech and we're exercising it", she said.

They say everything's bigger in Texas, and that apparently includes truck decals. "I'm not fearful. There's too much positive, and it makes people smile. Now you have a breach of the peace", he told KTRK. "They want to shake your hand".

Nehls later shared the Texas statute he was thinking of, which prohibits language that "tends to incite an immediate breach of the peace". And she says she speaks for many.

The American Civil Liberties Union of Texas asked the truck owner to contact the organization and offered the sheriff a free legal tip.

The sheriff appeared later to back down from that idea, saying he supports freedom of speech.

"I'm glad to see our government officials are concentrating on what's important", one comment said.

The anti-Trump is offensive, but free speech is often offensive.

A spokeswoman for the sheriff's office, which covers the county just southwest of Houston, said Thursday that Nehls' post was removed once the pickup driver was identified.
