Jose Mourinho "worried" over Marouane Fellaini contract situation at Manchester United

Jose Mourinho

"Probably I have the player that I didn't think it was possible to have, but in the end we got the player that I really wanted".

There has also been speculation about Luke Shaw's long-term future at Old Trafford following his lack of playing time under Mourinho.

Mourinho told his pre-match news conference ahead of Manchester United's win over Tottenham on Saturday: "I'm anxious about Fellaini and not about Luke Shaw because Fellaini finishes his contract and Luke Shaw doesn't".

And he dismissed Mauricio Pochettino's claims in his new book that he tried to tap up the Tottenham midfielder following United's 1-0 over Spurs at Old Trafford last December.

"I was surprised but I was happy about his words because it is not easy for the players to recognise and admit [why they lost]", said Mourinho.

He said: "I don't speak about injured players so don't ask me about Harry Kane, because then I have to speak about Rojo, Ibrahimovic, Pogba, Carrick".

Defenders Eric Bailly and Phil Jones are expected to return for United.

Bailly hasn't featured since the beginning of the global break after picking up an injury with the Ivory Coast while Jones is continuing his recovery from injury. "But in terms of the attitude that we didn't like, because I know the players and how good a people they are, I believe that was an isolated case".

One player whose future at United is in jeopardy is Luke Shaw, who fears he will not be given a chance by Mourinho to rescue his career.

"If you want to speak about his words I would be very disappointed if his words were different".

"The manager that helped him come to the first team, the manager that helped him develop in the best moment of his career, is the manager he doesn't forget, a manager he likes a lot, a manager that maybe one day he would like to be reunited again so for me the ideal words that show Luke Shaw's character in relation to the people he was happy with".

MANCHESTER UNITED take on Tottenham in the Premier League tomorrow - but which stars make Matt Le Tissier's combined United and Spurs XI?

The United boss continued: "To play bad and lose matches I think can happen again, it happens".
