Garcia produces stunning comeback to progress at WTA Finals

Garcia produces stunning comeback to progress at WTA Finals

Caroline Garcia has made a habit out of winning from hard positions and the Frenchwoman needed to call on her ability to turn around a tough situation once more on Friday to ride her momentum into the last four of the WTA Finals.

"I just talked to my coach before the match that this system, I don't like", she said.

The popular Dane will have a hand in who joins her come the weekend, however, for she takes on debutante Caroline Garcia, who produced some dazzling tennis to come back from a set and a break down and beat Elina Svitolina in a contest of high quality, 6-7 (7), 6-3, 7-5.

However, such a comment further adds to the sense that there is a growing tendency... I think if I just could keep the ball in, I could have been much better.

Svitolina, victor of no fewer than five titles this year, showed her mettle with a quick break in the third set, and after conceding a break back, fired up her backhand to make two cross-court winners past the net-bound Garcia.

"I will not let this tournament ruin everything I built this year, so I'm looking forward to the next year to have a good, a better start".

"I don't think it's ever easy when you play a world No. 1", Wozniacki said.

She said: "Even if I did the same result here, I'm a different player and I'm stronger". She was also the last to qualify for the season-ender. "If it happens again I'm going to be thankful, but for but now it's a long way to go".

Pliskova will regain the world number one status if she wins the season-ending tournament, but Halep reflected on a positive year despite such a disappointing end.

"There is no such a thing as a comfortable player on tour, especially at this tournament", Svitolina said of her success against Halep this year.

"I just felt 100 percent that the court is not for me and I can not finish a point", the Romanian said.

"Yeah? I don't even know".

Garcia seemed down and out after a woeful first-set saw Wozniacki take a 6-0 lead in just 22 minutes.

"Unfortunately, I can not go back in time". My game was completely off.
