Shkodran Mustafi adds to Arsène Wenger's Arsenal woes

Shkodran Mustafi adds to Arsène Wenger's Arsenal woes

Wenger confirmed in his press conference on Thursday morning that Mustafi would miss around 4-6 weeks, which wasn't as bad as first feared, but still means that it is unlikely that he will feature in any of Arsenal's games before the next worldwide break.

Mustafi suffered the muscle problem while on worldwide duty with Germany during the first half against Azerbaijan as the holders secured their place at the 2018 World Cup on the back of 10 straight qualifying wins in Group C.

"Yes, I have. I think about sorting out the problem, but overall I will completely decide what I do tomorrow because Koscielny will have a test then", Wenger said.

"Ozil and Welbeck have come back to full training".

"I have concerns about my defence because of the injuries, and I need to think about that".

Arsenal were dealt a fresh blow in terms of an injury during the worldwide break when Mustafi hobbled off with hamstring trouble while playing for Germany. I will decide that tomorrow.

Wenger has confirmed that Laurent Koscielny is facing a late fitness test to assess his availability for the game but the signs are positive that he'll be passed fit to return from an Achilles injury. "We'll check him today - he has a hip problem".

Sead Kolasniac, who has impressed so far this season at left-back, has come back from worldwide duty with a minor hip problem too, which is being assessed today. At the moment he is not available. He worked quite hard physically, he looks like he is capable of playing if he survives the test. Sanchez won't be back with us until tomorrow.

With Laurent Koscielny also fighting to be fit, that leaves Arsenal short at the back just when they will be hoping to push on and get back into the top four.
