Trump challenges Secretary of State to IQ test after 'moron' dig

Trump challenges Secretary of State to IQ test after 'moron' dig

While Fihn later said that she was joking in response to the Tillerson news, she reiterated, "I think that the election of President Donald Trump has made a lot of people very uncomfortable with the fact that he alone can authorize the use of nuclear weapons".

Tuesday afternoon, White House press secretary Sarah Sanders said Trump's comment was simply a joke.

Defense Secretary James Mattis and Chief of Staff John Kelly were reported to have pleaded with him to stay for the sake of "stability".

Tillerson was the subject of much speculation last week that predicted America's top diplomat would either resign or be fired for policy differences with Trump.

Speculation continues that Trump's White House cabinet is fractured and relations fraught, especially given the president's offhand and extremely public way of dealing with his subordinates.

In an interview with Forbes published Tuesday morning, Trump denied that Tillerson did actually call him a "moron", but said that if reports were true, he may have to compare IQs with his secretary of state.

Tillerson said he never considered resigning, though he didn't directly address the reported insult. Trump claimed in one of his tweets.

This type of pissing match is what 14-year-old boys do on the internet, and yet, it is also pretty similar to the exact same thing the president of the United States, who is not a 14-year-old, is doing right now with the secretary of state.

While Forbes noted Trump was talking about how he dealt with football team owners when he bought a New Jersey team in 1984, it's unclear whether that characterization of his business dealings applied to his other clients.

Tillerson isn't the first to say it, and he'll be far from the last to make this point. Regardless of who would win that competition - Trump implied he win - it would do nothing to answer the question of who is smarter.

Still, last week Trump told reporters he has "total confidence" in his secretary of state.

Several other news outlets subsequently confirmed the NBC News report, including The Washington Post and CNN.
