Federal judge rules Black Lives Matter can not be sued for officer injuries

Federal judge rules Black Lives Matter can not be sued for officer injuries

But U.S. District Judge Brian Jackson said that Black Lives Matter is not "an entity of any sort", and can't be sued.

Black Lives Matter is a social movement rather than an organization and therefore, can not be sued, a federal judge ruled. "Therefore, all claims against "Black Lives Matter" must be dismissed because social movements lack the capacity to be sued".

The judge also denied the officer's attempt to add the hashtag #BlackLivesMatter to the suit, writing that "a hashtag is patently incapable of being sued".

The activist shot back at Pirro on Twitter after she blamed him for "directing the violence" at a Baton Rouge protest in 2016 over the shooting of Alton Sterling, a black man held down and fatally shot by two police officers.

As for McKesson, the federal judge ruled he was expressing his right to free speech at the July 2016 demonstration where the cop got hurt. but it wasn't his fault.

In the lawsuit, the officer charged McKesson should have known the protests "would become violent".

McKesson, a former Minnesota school teacher who turned to activism in 2015, was one of nearly 200 protesters arrested at the July 9 rally.

That ruling drew the outrage of Judge Jeanine, who appeared on Fox & Friends Friday morning to accuse McKesson of "directing people, directing the violence". "The movement began as a call to end violence and that call remains the same today".

While Black Lives Matter as a whole cannot be sued, individuals associated with the group can be sued if a legitimate case can be brought against them.

Activist Deray McKesson shut down Judge Jeanine Pirro on Friday after the Fox News host accused him of "directing the violence" at a Baton Rouge protest held a year ago.

They have meetings. They solicit money.

Mckesson's attorney, Billy Gibbens, disputed Grodner's characterization, saying Black Lives Matter has no governing body or official members.

"This is a movement, and there isn't a person who is responsible for it, or the leader or the founder of it", Gibbens told the judge at a hearing in June.

The officer's attorney has also filed a separate suit against Black Lives Matter and Mckesson for a sheriff's deputy wounded in the deadly Baton Rouge attack. Nor could the officer sue the corporation Black Lives Matter Network Inc., according to the judge.
