Demi Lovato's Reason for Getting Sober Will Break Your Heart

Demi Lovato's Reason for Getting Sober Will Break Your Heart

I relate to all of them through personal experiences.

Back in March, Demi Lovato celebrated five years of being sober. "I had hit rock bottom, and I really needed to do this for myself".

Thankfully, her support system helped her through her darkest period, and Lovato is now an outspoken advocate for mental health awareness and even co-owns a mental health treatment center. Demi started out as a child actress, starring as a cast regular on Barney and Friends before finding her way onto the Disney Channel with a brief role in As the Bell Rings. Discussing how she knew that the situation was very real and the need for her to get clean was urgent, she opened up about how her family laid down the final ultimatum.

"When I went on tour and I sang all pop stuff", she said. She once said: "Something I've never talked about before - but with my drug use I could hide it to where I would sneak drugs". Lovato went to a rehabilitation center where she finally got the help she needed. "That's how hard it got and that was even with somebody [with me], I had a sober companion, somebody who was watching me 24/7 and living with me [and] I was able to hide it from them as well". "He was like, 'A lot of people see you do the emotional thing all the time, but they don't see you have fun!' And I was like, 'That's such a good point.' And [his opinion] kind of persuaded other people, too".

As well, French Montana, Desiigner, Kelly Clarkson and Luis Fonsi all made surprise video appearances to wish Lovato congratulations on her new album.

Demi's candid chat, which will air in the United Kingdom on Saturday, comes three weeks after she admitted staying sober is a daily "battle" as she was honoured with the Spirit of Sobriety award at Los Angeles' Brent Shapiro Foundation for Drug Prevention Summer Spectacular. However, if you buy "Tell Me You Love Me" at Target, you will get 2 extra original songs.

And she added that while she continues to stay well, there are also days when she does "fight temptation".
