Mobile increases unlimited data cap from 32GB to 50GB

Mobile increases unlimited data cap from 32GB to 50GB

T-Mobile suggests that this limit only impacts the "top 3% of data users", so most customers will never see "reduced speeds due to prioritization".

But lest you think that T-Mobile plans to increase their threshold every quarter, they won't spoil you that easily. Back in March, T-Mobile jumped the limit to 30GB before increasing it to 32GB in May. For Verizon and AT&T, this threshold is 22GB, and until today, T-Mobile's was 32GB. Go past that usage threshold and the carrier reserves the right to slow down your speeds - throttle you, in other words - during times of "network congestion".

By my count, this is the third such increase this year alone. This is not to be confused with the soft cap T-Mobile has on legacy limited data plans.

All the carriers use some form of deprioritization limit on their networks.

No matter which network's brand of unlimited you opt for, you'll run into some snags in the fine print. You don't hit 50GB and get throttled for the rest of the billing cycle. CEO John Legere said in a conference call after the recent Netflix announcement that "T-Mobile is in the business of selling T-Mobile ONE plans", as opposed to trying to bundle other types of vertically integrated content like AT&T's DirecTV and Verizon's Go90. Most of T-Mobile's unlimited plans include video throttling, so you might have trouble reaching 50GB in a given month.
