Burnley hold on to draw with Liverpool

Burnley hold on to draw with Liverpool

Liverpool fan Frank tore into manager Jurgen Klopp after his side 1-1 draw at home to Burnley.

Trent Alexander-Arnold had a deflected volley expertly denied when it looked as though it was creeping in the bottom right corner.

Steve Staunton has told Liverpool defender Joel Matip he must be stronger to cope with the demands of the Premier League, insisting the former Schalke man is primarily in the team to defend. "I'm not happy as when Solanke hit the bar I am sure it was a penalty". He did it in 500 other situations really well. Although they had to rely on a bit luck at times, Sean Dyche's side have shown their not a team to be trifled with, following up an opening day win over defending champions Chelsea by snatching points from Tottenham and now Liverpool.

The second half picked up were the first had left off, with Liverpool probing and Burnley doing well to contain them.

From Liverpool's first eight games of the season, Klopp's men have failed to prevent the opposition scoring just twice. Burnley fired a ball into the box and Klavan and Matip both went for the same header.

Pope has impressed in his few appearances for Burnley, conceding just once in those outings, to Accrington Stanley " s Matty Pearson in an EFL Cup tie last August, and having started last season as third-choice "keeper he overtook Paul Robinson towards the end of the campaign.

The result leaves relative minnows Burnley seventh, ahead of Liverpool on goal difference.

"He delivered a very, very good performance (against Palace) in a tough game, an awkward game for us".

Klopp insisted he is optimistic about his side's chances of taking points from a hard run of games, saying: "Now we go to Leicester, Leicester again, then we go to Moscow and then Newcastle and if we can keep the shape and improve the other things, I think everybody has seen already we can be really strong".

"As regards rehab, as long as the surgery heals properly, which we've got no reason to think it won't, he'll be on top of that, because he's ultra-professional". Philippe was a really good game.

MF Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, N/R - Came on for the final 12 minutes but didn't see a great deal of the ball and probably should have been brought on earlier.

"He was very important, but sometimes we use to him too much because people like to use his talents".
