Japan seeks to upgrade security talks with India amid China muscle-flexing

Japan seeks to upgrade security talks with India amid China muscle-flexing

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his Japanese counterpart Shinzo Abe reached Ahmedabad on Wednesday evening.

Gujarat is also setting up a second Japanese Industrial Park as Modi's home state decks up to host PM Shinzo Abe.

The Japnese PM Shinzo Abe, accompanied by his wife Akie Abe, is on a two-day visit to India, to attend the annual summit between the two countries.

Mr Modi, who was Chief Minister of Gujarat for 12 years before taking power at the centre, visited the mosque today for the first time, at a time India is facing global criticism over alleged intolerance and amid accusations by the ruling BJP's critics of divisive politics.

The train's journey, at a minimum operating speed of 320 km/hour, will begin at Sabarmati Railway Station - with 10 cars and 750 passengers - and will culminate at the Bandra-Kurla Complex in, Mumbai, within three hours, after covering 12 stations on the 508-km route.

Japan, the pioneer in Rail networks, came forward to invest in India's Bullet Train Project.

The two prime ministers will visit Sabarmati Ashram, established by India's freedom icon Mahatma Gandhi on the banks of the Sabarmati river.

"Love and Thanks", Abe wrote in a short message in Japanese on the visitors' register which was also signed by his wife. He said the previous joint statements by the two countries clearly articulated the views of both.

The two leaders are also expected to jointly lay the foundation stone of the Mumbai-Ahmedabad high-speed railway as part of the agreement for the export of the "shinkansen" (bullet train) technology to India during the visit.

Following the road show, both the leaders will be visiting the Sabarmati Ashram. Japan's ambassador to India Kenji Hiramatsu has recently said during an interview, "While Indian companies enjoy a large presence in Africa, Japanese companies possess advanced technologies".

But those objections may not matter much to Modi or Abe, as long as China gets the message: India and Japan are forging ever closer ties, and China has some serious competition in the Asian infrastructure game. It includes laying the foundation stone for India's first bullet train project between Ahmedabad and Mumbai.

The Prime minister of Japan, Shinzo Abe has landed in the country today. There are discussions going on. and we hope that there will be concrete development in that area (during the bilateral talks),” said Verma during the media briefing ahead of the Japanese Prime Ministers visit.

Modi and Abe would then have dinner at "Agashiye" restaurant located near the mosque, Patel added.
