Cincinnati falls to MI 36-14

Cincinnati falls to MI 36-14

However, that feeling changed quickly.

The Michigan Wolverines finally ended up putting away the Cincinnati Bearcats today, winning 36-14.

MI redshirt senior WR Wilton Speight completed 17 of 29 attempts for 221 yards and two touchdowns in the school's 36-14 win over Cincinnati on Saturday.

Speight's line of 17 for 29 (58.6 percent) for 221 yards and two scores looks fine on paper, but he struggled to get Michigan's offense moving for most of the first half and long into the second. The other two phases are a work in progress as well, especially the offense.

MI running back Ty Issac deserves an honorable mention for his work against Cincinnati.

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. - Ty Chandler returned the opening kickoff 91 yards for a touchdown, Carlin Fils-aime had two scoring runs and No. 25 Tennessee breezed to a victory over Football Championship Subdivision program Indiana State.

Sophomore Chris Evans played surprisingly little, carrying the rock five times for 15 yards. Defensively, Michigan football yields 17.0 points and 192.0 total yards per game, 181.0 in passing and 11.0 in rushing.

Freshman O'Maury Samuels made his first career appearance, with one carry in the final minute of the game. Peoples-Jones' fumble resulted in a Bearcats' touchdown.

On Michigan's next drive, Speight and Crawford had a timing issue on a handoff and fumbled. The Wolverines fumbled the punt, giving UC the ball at the MI 38-yard line.

Rudolph broke Brandon Weeden's mark of 9,260 yards it late in the second quarter, and finished the night with 9,352.

Game time: Noon ET. Four throws stood out. "The thing that's kept me coming back is the fans".

MI finally got on track again late in the third quarter offensively, mounting an 80-yard drive and taking a 24-14 lead with 3:01 left in the third quarter on a 33-yard touchdown pass from Speight to junior wideout Grant Perry. He had a passer rating of 145.4. Cincy cuts UM lead to 17-14. Perry had four catches for 66 yards and a touchdown.

MANHATTAN, Kan. - Kendall Adams scored two defensive touchdowns in the first half to propel No. 19 Kansas State to a victory over Charlotte.

Robert Jacobson, 49, of Mt. Clemens, has been bringing his father, Robert Jacobson Senior, to a University of MI home game for the past eight years to celebrate his birthday. That's something it will have to improve on when the competition starts getting more challenging.

MI didn't skip a beat on defense despite replacing 10 starters as Don Brown's unit registered six sacks and forced three turnovers while holding the Gators to 192 yards of offense. Fickell previously served as the interim head coach for Ohio State and lost to MI in 2011. Denard Robinson redistered back-to-back 100-yard efforts in 2012, but as a quarterback.

· Freshman offensive lineman Caser Ruiz saw his first game action as a Wolverine. In the receiving end, Tarik Black posted 83 yards and a touchdown in two receptions while Nick Eubanks added 61 yards in two catches. Through two games, the defense has allowed two scores, and one started inside of MI territory.

· Peoples-Jones' rush for 44 yards was the longest by a MI receiver since Jehu Chesson ran for 66 yards on a play against Maryland in 2015. With the win, MI improved to 115-18-3 all-time in home openers.

· ESPN NFL Insider and 1989 University of MI graduate Adam Schefter served as the Wolverines' honorary captain. Attendance for the game was 111,384.

A turnover gave the Bearcats their first scoring opportunity, and they took advantage.
