Sri Lanka vs India 2017: Rating the India cricketers after ODI series

Sri Lanka vs India 2017: Rating the India cricketers after ODI series

Captain Virat Kohli on Sunday expressed his satisfaction after India mauled Sri Lanka by six wickets in the fifth and final one-day worldwide in Colombo to complete their 5-0 series whitewash.

Going by what Kohli had to say at the post-match presentation of the 168-run win on Thursday, he was planning on sticking to the same eleven for the upcoming game, but because of a late development on Saturday, he will be forced to make one change.

India whitewashed the hosts 3-0 in the preceding test series, prompting the entire selection panel to resign. "Getting a Man-of-the Series award in the subcontinent as a fast bowler - it's always a great thing to achieve".

Sri Lanka, in a transition phase, will expect their young guns to give it back to the visitors in the final ODI if they are to escape another humiliating whitewash.

"It's quite fantastic to have won the series 5-0".

"We lacked consistency. We didn't bat, bowl or field well". "So from the last game in West Indies to now we've won six, that's something that we wanted to address which we did in this series".

"Till the World Cup, we have what 42 matches, 37 now if I am not wrong, so yes we will have to keep trying different players and try the best combinations for us".

Manish Pandey (36) and Kedar Jadhav (63) were the only other wickets to fall as the home side failed to halt India's inevitable march to victory, with MS Dhoni the other not out batsman as Kohli fittingly scored the winning run with a single down to long-off. He brought his century in 107 balls.

The right-hander went on to complete his 30th ODI century, equalling former Australian captain Ricky Ponting's tally. Tharanga 48, Thirimanne 67 and Mathews 55 were the top scorers. How low can this year go for the Sri Lankan team?

"As a player and captain, I feel very bad about it".

But Thirimanne and Mathews put up a 122-run partnership to help the hosts recover to some extent. "This is one aspect we need to rectify", he added. "Unfortunately we collapsed again", he said.

"We have to improve all three departments, especially our batting". For the meantime, there have been some speculations about Kusal Mendis's workload and if he will be taking rest then it will be making way for Tharanga.
