Man charged after missing student's body found at his grandmother's house

Man charged after missing student's body found at his grandmother's house

As The Associated Press reported, police believe that Burleigh was killed in Philadelphia before she was taken to Paupack, located some 25 miles east of Scranton.

Josh Hupperterz, a former Temple University student, was charged Sunday morning with killing Burleigh. The last time she was seen was on surveillance video leaving a bar near the school campus in north Philadelphia.

Authorities think that Burleigh was murdered in Philadelphia before her body was transported to the Jenkintown home and then to Wayne County, the ABC affiliate reported. Then, using a Lyft auto service, Burleigh's remains were taken to Wayne County, investigators said.

Her father, Edward, published a post on Facebook where he showed his sorrow for her daughter's murder.

Hupperterz was charged with murder, and faces charges of possession of an instrument of crime, evidence-tampering and abuse of a corpse.

Authorities said they found discovered blood spatter on Hupperterz's back door, kitchen sink, and on a trash can lid.

Court documents don't list an attorney for Hupperterz.

The 22-year-old was last seen in the area of Pub Webb (1527 Cecil B. Moore Avenue) at 2 AM on August 31st.

Hupperterz has confessed to elements of the crime, police said.

"It was actually a really common thing, nearly every time I saw him ... he was always outside smoking and he would always ask me and I would tell him I don't smoke", said Abulhawa, who never took Hupperterz up on his offers to smoke pot. On Friday, Philadelphia detectives spoke with Hupperterz's roommate, after which they obtained a search warrant for the apartment they shared on the 1700 block of North 16th Street, police said Sunday. Her classes began last Monday. She transferred from Montgomery County Community College to the university for the fall semester, Temple spokesman Ray Bentzner told NBC10.

Temple University also released a statement, saying they were deeply saddened by the "tragic event" and anyone in the Temple community could be "deeply touched by it".
