USC use blind long snapper on extra point

USC use blind long snapper on extra point

With 3:13 left on the clock at Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum on Saturday afternoon, USC long-snapper Jake Olson, decked out in his red and gold No. 61 football jersey, trotted out to the field with his teammates. Olson was born with retinoblastoma, a cancer of the retina, and lost vision in is left eye when he was 10 months old and in his right eye at 12 years old. At 6-foot-2 and 225 pounds, Olson has good size for a college long snapper and he handled the duties for his high school team as well.

After getting a tough battle from Western Michigan all game, No. 4 USC pulled away late, winning 49-31.

Olson, with the help of the umpire and his teammates, got lined up and delivered a flawless snap for a 49-31 advantage and final score. "More than that I just love football. I'm trying to say as much as I can, because I can't quite believe it yet". He hadn't played in a game until this season opener for the Trojans.

Olson officially joined the team in 2015, thanks to a scholarship with the Swim With Mike program, and he has snapped in the past two spring games. "I'm waiting to have more opportunities to show the coaches that I have the talent to go out there and snap". In fact, Olson once said being blind was actually an asset in his position in football.
