One US Police Officer Killed, Another Injured in Shooting in Kissimmee

The two officers and the suspect were then transported to the hospital for treatment.

Officer Matthew Baxter and Sgt. Sam Howard were responding to a suspicious activity call Friday night in Kissimmee.

Chief O'Dell confirmed the death of Officer Matthew Baxter, a three-year veteran with the Kissimmee Police Department and a father of three.

O'Dell said during a press conference that there is no danger to the public.

The suspect busted in the fatal shooting of a Florida cop was identified Saturday as a former U.S. Marine, police said.

Police arrested Everett Glenn Miller, a 45-year-old Marine veteran, in the slayings. Miller had recently been involuntarily committed by the Osceola County Sheriff's Office for mental health evaluation, under the state's Baker Act. Miller had a revolver and handgun on him.

Two officers in Jacksonville were also shot Friday. Howard is married with one child. "I would ask that you pray for the men and women of law enforcement", O'Dell said. "It's getting tough. these senseless acts are going on".

According to authorities, the suspect was armed with a high powered rifle. WJXT reports the shooting happened around 11:00 p.m.

When officers arrived at the home, the suspects opened fire on them. They were unable to return fire in the possible ambush. Officers are looking for the third of those witnesses. As they approached the house, the suspect started firing at them, after which they launched a counterattack, Bruno said.

Brabham, had no criminal history, the sheriff said.

"We often talk about the inherent dangers of police work, but tonight those dangers were all too real for these police officers".

The chief said the officers were surprised and didn't get a round off. The officers were reacting to an endeavored suicide call, JSO Director Mike Bruno disclosed to CBS offshoot WJAX.
