Cleveland Clinic, American Cancer Society Cancel Events At Trump's Mar-A-Lago

The American Cancer Society and Cleveland Clinic are just the latest organizations to distance themselves from Trump following almost a week of withering criticism over his response to a white supremacist rally in Charlottesville that left one dead and dozens injured.

A number of high profile charitable organizations have withdrawn fundraising events and galas from President Trump's Mar-a-Lago club in Palm Beach, Florida amid growing backlash to the president's response to the deadly violence that broke out in Charlottesville last weekend.

The Palm Beach Police Foundation said in a statement that it plans to keep its annual ball at Mar-a-Lago because it is not a political event and no other venues in town can accommodate 700 guests.

Estate: The American Cancer Society cited its "values and commitment to diversity" in canceling an upcoming gala at Mar-a-Lago, The Washington Post reports.

The American Cancer Society was the first to announce that they would re-locate their event in the wake of these comments.

A leader of the Palm Beach Chamber of Commerce, of which President Trump's Florida resort Mar-a-Lago is a member, wants all charities to do a moral gut check before doing business at the club. For instance, in January, the American Red Cross faced criticism when protesters rallied outside its annual fundraiser at Mar-a-Lago as the charity organization was helping those affected by Trump's US refugee program, ABC News reported. But this week the Cleveland Clinic cut its ties to President Trump.

The Federal Emergency Management Agency plans to award $41 million as early as September 30 and no later than the end of the year, according to a memo from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security.

Three White House business panels were scrapped in the past week after CEOs of some of America's largest companies withdrew their support from Trump.

"We allow for a cocktail hour - an hour and a half, really [during a silent auction fundraiser]", said Peter Brock, chairman for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, which has hosted a fundraiser at the Mar-a-Lago for eight years, according to The Post.

Cleveland Clinic CEO Toby Cosgrove was part of Trump's Strategic and Policy Forum, which has since been disbanded.

She said she is not implying that charities should shun Trump.

However, the organization did not respond to questions about whether it will have its fundraiser at Mar-a-Lago next year as well or not.

The Cleveland Clinic on Thursday became the latest blue-chip health system to distance itself from President Donald Trump.

The Post notes for Trump this time it's getting personal.
