Merck CEO Steps Down From Trump Business Council

Merck CEO Steps Down From Trump Business Council

Frazier's resignation - the latest CEO to quit one of Trump's high-profile executive advisory groups - comes after a weekend of violent clashes in Charlottesville, Virginia, that resulted in one death.

Trump still hasn't mentioned the domestic terror attack by racists in Charlottesville that killing one and wounded nineteen, but he has plenty of time to scold a CEO for resigning from his manufacturing council.

"It took Trump 54 minutes to condemn Merck CEO Ken Frazier, but after several days he still has not condemned murdering white supremacists", said Keith Boykin, a former aide to President Bill Clinton. Merck has a facility in Upper Gwynedd Township and is Montgomery County's largest employer.

At the group's first meeting in January, Trump shook Frazier's hand after the CEO talked up efforts to bring manufacturing jobs back to the USA for a cancer drug.

The president, famous for his ability to be direct and forceful, was faulted for condemning violence "on many sides".

Frazier, though, was clearly fed up with the president today.

Trump's attorney general, Jeff Sessions, tried to defend the president over his reaction, appearing on a series of morning talk shows on Monday.

Tesla CEO Elon Musk resigned from the manufacturing council in June, as well as two other advisory groups to the president, after the USA withdrawal from the Paris climate agreement.

Merck & Co.'s CEO resigned from President Donald Trump's council of manufacturing executives Monday, saying "America's leaders must honor our fundamental values" by rejecting expressions of hatred, bigotry and group supremacy.

The Department of Justice should open a full investigation into the events at a weekend rally in Charlottesville, Virginia, that left three people dead, says Congressman Brian Fitzpatrick.

Trump has said "many sides" are to blame for violence. "We have been silent up until now, but now we see that this was a mistake".

Key leaders from across government have been meeting to discuss the issue of pricing, but based on leaked documents that have been circulating, including a potential draft executive order on drug pricing, Wall Street analysts have noted that some of the actions being proposed could actually help the pharmaceutical industry.

Other executives who agreed to serve on councils advising the president have already resigned, citing separate stances taken by the Trump administration. Elon Musk of Tesla, Bob Iger of Disney, and Lloyd Blankenfeld of Goldman Sachs all left advisory boards.
