World's oldest man dies aged 113

Kristal's wonderful life began in what is modern-day Poland on 15 September 1903 and saw him survive the Auschwitz concentration camp.

However he married again to Batsheva after the war and emigrated to Israel with his family in 1950.

Guinness World Records awarded Kristal a certificate as the world's oldest man past year.

Last year, he made headlines for celebrating his bar mitzvah a century late. Usually in Jewish faith, when Jewish boys become 13 years old, they become accountable for their actions and become a bar mitzvah.

Upon being recognized by the Guinness World Records as the world's oldest man in March past year, Kristal was asked what the secret to his longevity was.

Yisrael Kristal passed away in his hometown of Haifa, according to Guinness World Records. He hadn't celebrated it in 1916 because of World War I breaking out, the BBC reported.

Kristal, who resided in the northern Israeli city of Haifa, was born in on September 15, 1903, in the Polish village of Zarnow.

His two children died in the ghetto and his first wife was murdered in the Auschwitz gas chambers but Krista never gave up. Kristal is survived by two children, multiple grandchildren and great grandchildren, according to Guinness.

Kristal's daughter told the New York Times her father had prayed every morning for the past 100 years. "There have been smarter, stronger and better-looking men than me who are no longer alive". His mother had already died when Kristal was only seven years old. "All that is left for us to do is to keep on working as hard as we can and rebuild what is lost".

The current holder of the title "oldest living person" is Violet Brown, a 117-year-old Jamaican woman, born in March of 1900.
