Mega Millions jackpot expected to reach $393 million for Friday's drawing

Mega Millions jackpot expected to reach $393 million for Friday's drawing

So what are the odds of the same person winning the Mega Millions drawing on Friday and the Powerball drawing on Saturday? That's the sixth-largest jackpot in the game's 15-year history.

Saturday's estimated jackpot is now at $356 million, or just over $203 million if a victor chooses to take the winnings in cash. Lottery officials say this is the first time that the jackpots in Powerball and Mega Millions have simultaneously topped the $300 million mark.

It has been seven years since every state lottery in the USA began selling Powerball and Mega Millions tickets, but both games have never offered payouts of this size at the same time. Those prizes are based on annuity options, paid over 29 years.

Staten Island has had its share of lottery winners, including the "Fabulous 9" from Eger Health Care, Powerball winners in 2014 and a Staten Island homemaker who won $169 million in Mega Millions in 2016. The Mega Million odds are slightly better - only 1 in 259 million. About one in 75.6 quadrillion, according to CNNMoney. Luckiest places around Houston to buy your lotto tickets After September 1, a new law will make it so that Texas Lottery winners can remain anonymous.
