Lawsuit alleges White House link in Seth Rich conspiracy

Lawsuit alleges White House link in Seth Rich conspiracy

Butowsky appeared to be attempting to impeach the credibility of the lawsuit's plaintiff, private investigator Rod Wheeler, who alleges that Fox News used falsified quotes attributed to him.

Wheeler says that after Fox News ran the story, he called Butowsky and demanded an explanation for the quotes attributed to him, which he said Zimmerman fabricated. Jay Wallace, Fox's president of news, told NPR there was no "concrete evidence" that Wheeler was misquoted.

Butowsky, who did not answer requests for comment on Tuesday, urged Wheeler in emails and texts to push the bogus Rich story, according to Wheeler's lawsuit, and suggested that Trump was paying attention. The lawsuit claims Butowsky is a Fox News contributor, opponent of Hillary Clinton, and friend to Sean Spider and Steve Bannon.

White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders said on Tuesday that the administration was in no way involved with Fox News' story regarding Rich's death.

The full text of the lawsuit follows below.

A new suit is alleging that Fox News is fake news - and that the President signed off on a story with false quotes. This is him showing ownership for a statement that says the Fox News report on May 16 was "essentially correct".

Rich was shot and killed near his Washington, D.C. apartment last June, less than two weeks before 19,000 DNC emails were published on WikiLeaks.

"So Chris, I resent you trying to characterize me as an insensitive jerk", he said. After Butowsky was told by journalist Seymour Hersh that there was an Federal Bureau of Investigation report establishing that Seth Rich sent emails to Wikileaks, he allegedly said, "The most important thing is this". He will be represented by Douglas Wigdor, the same lawyer representing several former Fox News employees, who are claiming that the news network tolerates sexual harassment in the office and other work-related issues including discrimination.

The lawsuit also alleges that Butowsky sent emails to Fox News producers with guidance on the story, saying that "One of the big conclusions we need to draw from this is that the Russians did not hack our computer systems and steal emails and there was no collusion like Trump with the Russians". He said he is not aware of any contact with the president.

The White House hit back, saying Trump had "no knowledge" of the story.

Butowsky told CNN's Chris Cuomo that when he met with Spicer about his findings, he did not tell the press secretary the goal of the meeting beforehand.

BUTOWSKY: Well, that's what I'm trying to say so let me finish my sentence, okay?

Wheeler said he has "suffered irreparable damage to his reputation and his career will likely never recover" as a result of the quotes being included in the article.

"Incredibly, according to Butowsky, the President reviewed an article written by a Fox News journalist prior to its publication and sought to get the article published 'immediately, '" the complaint states.

Wheeler himself went on Fox 5 local news on May 15 and said that "absolutely" his "sources at the FBI" have "confirmed" that there is link between Rich and WikiLeaks.
