Deadly shootout at Moscow court leaves three dead

Deadly shootout at Moscow court leaves three dead

Three defendants have been shot dead after reportedly trying to grab guns from guards during a trial at Moscow Regional Court.

The incident happened when five defendants facing murder charges were taken to the court in the Moscow suburb of Krasnogors, a spokeswoman for the Moscow regional police said.

Three law enforcement officials were also wounded, said Petrova and Yevgeny Kubyshkin, a spokesman for the Russian National Guard, which had an officer in the court.

The suspects were blamed for being a piece of a gathering known as GTA Gang, named after the vicious diversion arrangement Grand Theft Auto.

The prosecutor's office for the Moscow region said it was looking into the incident to see if the guards had violated the procedure for escorting defendants.

Four people standing trial were killed when a gunfight broke out in a Moscow courthouse. "I saw a wounded woman bailiff, her face in blood", she said.

One tried to strangle a guard before the defendants seized the guards' weapons and the group managed to escape, the investigative committee said.

RIA Novosti quoted another lawyer who said she heard at least 20 shots.

Court employees and visitors were promptly evacuated.

"Two are members of the so-called GTA Gang".

The nine accused men, who are all from Central Asia, were charged with 17 murders and 2 attempted murders.

The three defendants were accused of terrorizing drivers in Moscow by disabling motorists' cars with spikes placed on roads, and then shooting the drivers.
