Broncos Shane Ray to miss 6-8 weeks with torn wrist ligament

Broncos Shane Ray to miss 6-8 weeks with torn wrist ligament

Ray picked up the injury just two days into training camp after attempting to shed a block during Thursday's practice, coach Vance Joseph said on Friday.

Ray, who finished with eight sacks last season, is poised for a breakout year in the Broncos defense as he was immediately elevated into the starting lineup nearly from the moment DeMarcus Ware retired earlier this year.

"He was sore and he wore a brace today in practice, but the X-ray showed the ligament was torn". (Ray) has the ligament torn that's attached to the same bone that Booker fractured. Last season, he had 48 combined tackles including eight sacks.

Barrett is now on the team's non-football injury (NFI) list with a hip injury he suffered during the offseason. Barrett is on the Non-Football Injury list and has not practiced in training camp.

Suddenly Miller's workload in both practice and in the preseason is a significant consideration because the Broncos now have two outside linebackers - Shane Ray and Shaquil Barrett - who will miss the preseason and most likely will miss the start of the regular season as well. If Ray is out the full eight weeks, he would not be able to play until September 24 when Denver plays the Buffalo Bills.

The team announced the signing of linebacker Danny Mason, and subsequent release of tight end Henry Krieger-Coble. He is yet to appear in a regular season NFL game, but he has played for the Texas Revolution and Colorado Ice in the Indoor Football League.

"We signed Edebali because he was a relentless rusher in New Orleans", Joseph said.

Still, Joseph said he would confer with GM John Elway about maybe adding another pass rusher to the roster.
