Arsenal hold their nerve to beat Bayern Munich 3-2 on penalties

Who said Arsenal couldn't beat Bayern?

The German champions were made to pay for their profligacy in the closing minutes as Arsenal mounted a rare counter from which Iwobi secured them a surprise equaliser against a side that had hammered them 5-1 in each of their last three meetings.

James Rodriguez saw five chances at a first Bayern goal repelled by the veteran goalkeeper, whose efforts were rewarded in the 94th minute when Alex Iwobi headed home after a fine Arsenal move.

Arsenal were indebted to their goalkeepers as they edged out Bayern Munich in Shanghai.

Bayern were nearly heading to victory after taking a 1-0 lead from the penalty spot in the ninth minute through Robert Lewandowski, but were stunned by the Gunners.

Meanwhile, Bayern Munich head into this game on a four game pre-season win streak and are coming off a 2-0 victory over SV Werder Bremen in the TELEKOM CUP on Saturday.

Arsenal's refusal to sell Sanchez is believed to be rooted in long-term economic factors, as well as sporting ones, with the club convinced it would be more damaging to accept a large fee for him this summer than to risk losing him as a Bosman free agent next summer.

The North London based outfit will take on Premier League champions Chelsea on the next leg of their China tour before returning to England.

The Chile forward is a prime target for Manchester City and Paris Saint-Germain, with his desire being to join the former.

J├╝rgen Klopp is said to have "emphasised internally" his desire to sign the player should he become available and the German manager may pay close attention when the Reds travel to Munich for the Audi Cup - of which Bayern are also a part - in early August.
