Pak news report of attack on India 'fake', says Chinese media

Meanwhile, former Indian-American assistant secretary of state for South and Central Asia Nisha Desai Biswal said that China needs to acknowledge that India is "a force to be reckoned with" and countries in the region are unsettled by Beijing's unilateral actions.

The People's Liberation Army has carried out a live-fire, brigade-level military exercise on the Tibet plateau which borders India.

The ruling Communist Party of China has issued a stern warning to neighboring India, with which it is engaged in a bitter border dispute that has recently seen Chinese live-fire drills and media speculation of extensive Indian military casualties denied by both sides. The video footage showed the Chinese soldiers attacking an Indian posts using rocket launchers, machine guns, and mortars.

Brahmaputra flows into India from Arunachal Pradesh border. China has also informed some of the G-20 countries about the situation, the report says.

The video also showed radar units identifying enemy aircraft and soldiers using anti-aircraft artillery to destroy targets, the report said.

Separately, Tibet's mobile communication agency conducted a drill on July 10 in Lhasa, capital of Tibet, where members of the agency practiced setting up a temporary mobile network to secure communications in an emergency. The exercise was held last week while troops from India and China remain locked in a standoff in Doklam at the trijunction with Bhutan.

The saber rattling and the media clashes comes in the wake of ongoing stand-off between Indian and Chinese troops at Sino-Indian border in Sikkim.

While the Ministry of External Affairs in Delhi remained tightlipped over China's stand, Jaishankar told the parliamentary panel that the Chinese side was misinterpreting the border position which India has maintained since 1895 as per an Anglo-Chinese agreement.

As many as 73 roads with "operational significance" are being constructed along the Sino-India border, the Lok Sabha was informed today.

The situation became tense when Chinese construction crews moved into the area Bhutan considers its territory at the beginning of June, and Bhutan called on India to resist them. Rubbishing the Indian claims of acting on behalf of Bhutan in the disputed region, Xinhua opined that New Delhi is attempting to undermine the sovereignty of Thimphu.
