Cavaliers in chaos after GM leaves on eve of pivotal summer

Cavaliers in chaos after GM leaves on eve of pivotal summer

On Monday, the Cleveland Cavaliers and general manager David Griffin parted ways, which shocked the entire National Basketball Association community.

Billups has had a relationship with Cavaliers owner Dan Gilbert for more than a decade since Billups endorsed Rock Financial, Gilbert's Detroit-based mortgage company, when the former guard was a member of the Detroit Pistons. Pluto began writing "The Comeback" in 2014, the year LeBron James came home and took up the challenge of leading the Cavaliers to a championship.

GOLF: In a statement to The Associated Press, Tiger Woods said he is receiving help to manage his "medications and the ways that I deal with back pain and a sleep disorder".

A half-hour before midnight, LeBron James tweeted his appreciation of Cleveland's ex-GM David Griffin, who stepped down Monday evening after 3 years at the helm.

LeBron was not happy with Griffin's departure, which could spell trouble for the Cleveland Cavaliers, according to Yahoo!

LeBron James didn't make this decision. Gilbert said in a statement Monday, June 19, 2017, that the Cavaliers will not extend Griffin's current contract when it expires June 30. Hanging over everything in Cleveland is the possibility that James himself will leave the team in 2018, when he is expected to opt out of his contract. James has criticized the decision to get rid of Cavaliers general manager David Griffin.

Adrian Wojnarowski, editor of TheVertical.com, reported that Cavaliers owner Dan Gilbert is considering Billups as the next President of basketball operations and assist in the hiring of a new general manager. He was praised as a magician by coach Tyronn Lue, but the Cavs failed to make a commitment to Griffin while wrapping up others last summer, including giving Lue a five-year, $35 million extension. "We got us 1 (trophy)", wrote James on his Twitter account.

Griffin's impact on the Cavaliers can't be understated.

"We shouldn't be shocked after we fired our head coach when we were in first place in the middle of the season", Jefferson said, referring to former coach David Blatt.

It depends on who is hired as the next general manager. Maybe Griffin recognized that and wanted to bring in some more versatile players who could better hang with Golden State, such as Paul George and/or Jimmy Butler.

A lot of Griffin's deals involved acquiring veteran players late in their careers for the minimum salary or trade exceptions.
