Amazon to offer "try before you buy" service

Amazon to offer

Amazon has begun new service called Prime Wardrobe that lets customers try on clothes at home before they pay for it and return them for free.

Once you've received your box of choices, customers have seven days to decide what to keep and what to return.

It is similar to fashion companies like Stitch Fix, Trunk Club and DailyLook Elite.

What makes Amazon's service unique from StitchFix other subscription services is the monthly fee. Zappos quickly grew its business by promising and delivering free returns and exchanges for customer shoe purchases, no questions asked.

Analysts expect Amazon to become the largest apparel retailer in the USA, at a time when many traditional brick-and-mortar retailers were closing stores or filing for bankruptcy.

Remember: Amazon started out as an online bookstore. Today, Amazon launched Prime Wardrobe, a feature that allows Prime subscribers to try on clothes before they buy them.

Retail Stocks Plummet as Amazon Announces Prime Wardrobe

By 2021, Cowen expects Amazon to generate US$62 billion in annual apparel sales in the US.

Amazon is expected to surpass Macy's this year to become the biggest apparel seller in the U.S. this year, according to Cowen & Co.

Amazon said members can select from over a million items across its women, men, kids and baby departments.

Amazon, already the second-largest USA clothing seller, is expected to move past Macy's Inc.to No. 1 this year, based on its broad offerings and fast-paced growth of customers who like the convenience and pricing of online shopping, according to a Cowen & Co. report.

While Prime Wardrobe is still in its beta phase, you can still sign up to be notified once it goes live. Amazon says for customers who keep three or four items, they'll get a 10 percent discount and if they keep five or more, they'll get a 20 percent discount.

But unlike most traditional department stores, Amazon offers free two-day shipping - even for its clothes - through its Prime membership program.
