Imam stops angry Muslims assailing London van suspect

British newspapers The Guardian and Daily Mirror identified him as Darren Osborne, who lives with his partner and four children in Cardiff, Wales.

The incident is being treated as a terror attack, although police believe the suspect acted alone. She was attacked near the mosque she attended, in what appears to be a road-rage-related episode, according to police.

Edward Gardiner, 28, a self-employed builder and plumber, who lives near Osborne's terraced home in Pentwyn, in east Cardiff, called police at 12.27am on Sunday morning to report concerns for the welfare of a man sitting in a Pontyclun Van Hire vehicle.

And now he's restrained let the police take him into custody and we hand him over which is our duty as members of the British public, to follow the law, to hand him over unharmed, and to not contradict our own religion which prohibits harming any unarmed man.

He is alleged to have expressed increasingly antagonistic views towards Muslims since the London Bridge atrocity earlier this month, United Kingdom daily The Telegraph reported.

Other politicians, including Prime Minister Theresa May and Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn, have regularly spoken out against Islamist terror, quickly condemning the mosque attack and visiting the area.

Hooper criticized Trump's response to the mosque attack in London and to the killing of 17-year-old Nabra Hassanen in Virginia.

The family of Darren Osborne, the man suspected of deliberately driving into the Muslim group, said he was "troubled", while regulars at his local pub said he was thrown out for threatening to kill Muslims. "It still hasn't really sunk in".

The driver was grabbed at the scene by some of the Muslim worshippers and pinned down until police arrived, while others did what they could to help the wounded.

One person was killed and at least 10 were injured in the incident.

Mohammed Kozbar, Chairman of Finsbury Park Mosque, with faith and community leaders.

Mr Henry said the community was "absolutely shocked" and it was a mixed community where he had never seen any trouble.

His point of view may come as a surprise to Westerners who think about terrorism only as high-profile attacks carried out in the US and Europe, such as the September 11, 2001, attacks and the mass shooting at Pulse nightclub in Orlando previous year.

Since the London Bridge attack earlier this month, police say hate crimes against Muslims have increased five-fold.

"I just heard he said, 'I did my bit, '" he said.

The group of Muslims were returning back from the Finsbury Park Mosque after breaking their fast.

People stop to read tributes and look at plawers placed in the Finsbury Park area of north London on Tuesday, for the victims of a van attack on pedestrians nearby on Monday. "I just screamed", she told The Sun. Worshippers at the Omar Faruque mosque in Cambridge found strips of ham attached to their vehicles.

On July 2, Khan is exhorting Londoners of all faiths and none to join in a celebration of Eid al-Fitr, the Muslim feast at the end of Ramadan. They said they would sort it out.

The bureau defines a hate crime as "a traditional offense like murder, arson or vandalism, with an added element of bias".

The imam rushed out and saw about 15 people on the scene who were tending to the injured and also giving CPR to the man who has since died.
