What we know about the injuries from the Alexandria shooting

The House gaveled back into session Thursday a day after a shooting critically wounded a top GOP leader, Rep. Steve Scalise of Louisiana, and injured several others, including Capitol Police officers.

Trump says Scalise "continues his very fearless fight", but adds: "it's been much more hard than people even thought at the time".

"We are feeding into very fragile or disturbed minds ideas and language they shouldn't hear over and over on TV", Richmond said, pointing news media and "average citizens" among those responsible.

"I think a lot of members are shook up, on both sides", Taylor said Thursday, noting that there has been a profound sense of "unity" in Congress since the attack.

The House of Representatives' No. 3 Republican leader was in grave condition when he was first shot.

Sava estimates there are hundreds of bullet fragments in Scalise's pelvis and says doctors don't intend to try to remove them all, as that could cause more harm than good.

Special Agents Crystal Griner, David Bailey and Henry Cabrera were on the scene when James T. Hodgkinson opened fire.

"The left-wing gunman whose rampage on a Virginia baseball diamond Wednesday left a congressman in critical condition and three others shot appears to have been driven by political rage critics fear is only increasing".

Lawmakers said, despite the bloodshed on Wednesday, the annual Congressional Baseball Game for Charity must go on.

A Capitol Police officer is always posted at the congressional team's morning practices, and both Capitol Police and D.C. police will be at the June 21 game.

One day after a gunman opened fire on Republican lawmakers practicing for a charity baseball game, lawmakers in Washington are still reeling from the tragedy.

Rep. Roger Williams of Texas, taken away in a stretcher with an injured ankle from the chaos in Virginia, hobbled around the third-base box Thursday night, coaching the GOP team as planned, with his crutches set aside. He was hit in the left hip, suffering injuries to internal organs, broken bones and severe bleeding, in Wednesday's shooting.

Speaker Paul Ryan (R-WI) said of them during a House floor speech, "We are, as ever, awed by the tremendous bravery of the Capitol Police". It's a sentiment lawmakers frequently express after mass shootings or terror attacks, only to see their sharp oratorical elbows gradually return.

The FBI said Hodgkinson had a handgun and a rifle, according to a law enforcement official.

Family members of Matt Mika say the MI native was shot multiple times in his chest and arm, and he remains in the intensive care unit in critical condition at George Washington University Hospital.

The gunman, James Hodgkinson, a 66-year-old unemployed home inspector from southern IL, died after the shootout.

Authorities are still working to determine the motive for the attack, according to AP.

Jeff Flake and Rep. Brad Wenstrup, who is a physician, applied pressure to his wound, Flake said.

The GOP lawmakers' team was taking batting practice when gunshots rang out and chaos erupted. Rep. Mo Brooks, an Alabama Republican, said his colleague "crawled into the outfield, leaving a trail of blood".

The game, as they say, must go on. The man calmly asked which party's lawmakers were practicing and Duncan told him they were the Republicans.

Sava declined to put a timeline on when that would happen or when Scalise, 51, would be able to leave the hospital.
